HIV/AIDS Services and Treatment

El Proyecto's HIV/AIDS Program offers outpatient medical services and education and outreach services. Medical services include examinations, tuberculosis and syphilis treatment, immune system monitoring, confidential/anonymous HIV/AIDS testing and counseling, treatment for HIV/AIDS-related illness, gynecology and pharmacy assistance. Psychological and education services include psychiatric medical care, stress and mental health counseling, drug and alcohol counseling, health and family education, HIV/AIDS treatment education, and a variety of referral and benefits services

El Proyecto del Barrio's HIV Program in Arleta provides services to the burgeoning HIV population in the East San Fernando Valley. The program has more than 150 adult clients, of which 80 percent are men. Last year, the program totaled 1,500 medical encounters, completed 1,600 counseling and testing visits, and had 1,332 case management visits. The vast majority of these clients had no other health care options in the local community, with the vast majority of the individuals living below 200% of the federal poverty level.

The HIV Clinic-Arleta provides Medical Outpatient Services, HIV Testing and Counseling, Case Management, Health Education & Risk Management and Nutritional Services. Mental Health Services are provided by a Psychologist, Psychiatrist and Clinical Social Worker

Since inception in 1971, El Proyecto has earned a reputation for excellence and providing "Esperanza" (hope) to the community. For four decades El Proyecto has strived to expand and enhance the services provided to the community. Today the organization operates Family Health Care Clinics in the greater San Fernando Valley and the San Gabriel Valley and serves an area covering more than 400 square miles. These clinics provide more than 70,000 annual medical encounters.
